It's nearly two years since I had my first medicine reading with Deborah Hanekamp (Mama Medicine) the beautiful woman who introduced me to the medicine that are ritual baths.
For centuries water has been used in healing. Ritual baths as prescribed by Deborah as 'homework' (definitely a homework I can get on board with!) and include a specific list of ingredients to cleanse your body and aura. Each bath contains specific crystals, flowers, oils, Epsom salts and occasionally teas and herbs. The particular ingredients are for a specific for a specific issue that needs healing and support.
It's a practice that I have continued on a weekly basis, it encourages me to take that time to switch off mentally from work and technology. I use the 20 minutes or longer to relax and reconnect to myself. Epsom salts in water just on their own are intensely relaxing, rich in magnesium, calming to the nervous system and great for skin health.
Below is the very first prescribed ritual bath I was given by Deborah and was perfect medicine at the time as it was focused upon releasing grief.
I wrote this before all the recent UK events but now feels like the perfect time to share.
I N G R E D I E N T S
Clear Quartz (a few stones or clusters)
White Rose (full heads, petals or both)
A few drops of Lavender essential oil OR a small handful of fresh Lavender
A few drops of Rose Absolute oil
Cup of Epsom salts
Before you get into the bath clear around your body with Sage (You can find that here)
Place a clear quartz crystal in between your heart and throat chakra to clear out grief. Allow sounds to come out whilst holding the quartz....it can be ahhhh, omm, ohhh, mmmm.....whatever you feel called to do (it can even be a song you've had stuck in your head).
Do a few rounds of inhaling into your belly then your chest then exhaling through your mouth.
Dunk your head under the water for a few seconds then relax and soak for 20 minutes.
Do this ritual bath once every two weeks. Allow yourself the time and space to be undisturbed so that you can nourish your mind body and soul.

When I moved to my new place I didn't have a bath so I had to amend my regular ritual baths. The intention is there and I believe intention is extremely powerful so here's my amended version.
As you would prepare the bath, run the water and add the ingredients to a container big enough to comfortably fit both feet in. When you have filled it approximately 1/2 to 3/4s full cover it with a towel and place it next to you in the bathroom. You will need a jug.
Cleanse around your body with Sage and step into the shower and after 2-3 minutes of being under the shower fill the jug with the water with the flowers / herbs / oils and crystals in. Pour it over your head and body, do this twice.
Step out of the shower, pat yourself dry. Take your foot bath and find a relaxing place to sit and soak your feet in the water for 20 minutes. Spend time breathing deeply and relaxing.
If you try it let me know, I'd love to hear your thoughts. I would highly recommend a reading with Deborah if you feel like it's something that resonates. I can't put into words the whole experience but it was beautiful, confirming, supportive and expansive.
